Any student at Whitman College is encouraged to write legislation to address problems they see on campus. Different types of legislation have different purposes, whether it’s a resolution, which can urge the college administration to do certain things the student body believes in, or something like a bylaw amendment, which is more internal to ASWC as an organization. ASWC Senators and Executive Council members would be more than happy to assist you with writing legislation. Alternatively, you could bring an idea for legislation to them and they can write it. Chat with them at Executive Council office hours (12-1 p.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays in Reid 210) or contact the Vice President of Legislative Affairs at aswc_vp@whitman.edu to learn more. Guides and templates for writing legislation can be found here.
