The Glean Team
The Whitman College Glean Team works with local farms to pick up food that has been left behind after a harvest and donates it to the Blue Mountain Action Council Food Warehouse. The Glean Team was founded to raise awareness on issues pertaining to food insecurity and to provide opportunities for Whitman students to harvest and donate fresh produce. With 250 members, and over 90 gleaning events in the past year, Glean Team has quickly become one of the most active groups on campus. Combined efforts between students and community members yielded nearly 35,000 pounds of fresh produce that have been donated and distributed to those in need throughout the greater Walla Walla area. In 2014, the Glean Team received the Ben Rabinowitz Independent Project Award from Whitman College. For more information on the glean team, email the listserve.
