Campus Climate Coalition
Our focus is to promote environmental sustainability and climate justice through student run campaigns. We serve as an umbrella organizing space that seeks to make Whitman a more sustainable and ethical campus. We have years of experience working with Whitman’s administration. If you have an idea, come to a meeting and we’ll try to help you get it off the ground! Sign up to the list serve (firstname.lastname@example.org) and come to our weekly meetings. The CCC meets every Thursday at 5pm in Reid 110.
Here are some events the CCC has hosted in the past.
- EcoWeek: The CCC hosted a two week competition between resident halls to help students make small sustainable lifestyle changes. Participants gained points by completing actions like going vegetarian for a week, washing their clothes in cold water, and turning off the lights when leaving a room. The resident hall with the most points by the end of the two weeks won a prize for their sustainability efforts.
- Mount Trashmore: The CCC complied a week’s worth of Whitman College’s trash into “Mount Trashmore”. This mountain of trash sat next to Cordiner Hall and was designed to make the college and its students think about how much garbage they produced and in what ways they could limit their waste.
- Environmental Movie Nights: To promote sustainability amongst the student body, the CCC screens environmental documentaries for the larger whitman campus.
- Campus Speakers: The CCC brings speakers to Whitman campus to help educate the student body about relevant environmental issues.
