Katie is a Gender Studies major and German Studies minor from Colorado with an enthusiastic passion for community service, social justice and cultural immersion. She has worked in the community service office at Whitman facilitating Events & Reflection, planning Summer Community OutReach Excursions, and now as a Spring Break Service Trips intern. She has also served as the co-president of Feminists Advocating Change and Empowerment and as a Resident Assistant in North Hall. In addition engagement on campus, Katie loves to travel and lived for seven months in New Zealand in 2009 and spent another five months living and studying in Freiburg, Germany in 2015.
Since coming to Whitman, I have been deeply invested in the goal of putting an end to sexual assault and relationship violence on Whitman campus and beyond. I have led and participated in many events and conversations leading to this goal, including bringing feminist activists to campus, participating in Green Dot training, leading a “Beyond Green Dot” panel, acting in and organizing the Breaking Ground monologues, and organizing “Take Back the Night.” I am excited to see what I can do in this role to influence positive and necessary changes on Whitman campus and to encourage conversation and action surrounding these issues.
